Ornamental plants and pot herbs

Reducing resource use and encouraging sustainability are becoming increasingly important in the growing of ornamental and garden plants. Biostimulants are an effective natural alternative for strengthening plants and preventing pests and diseases.

Growing media are a mixture of different mineral and organic materials such as compost, peat, clay and wood fibres, which ensure that the plants grow well and quickly. The choice of the right high-quality growing medium for each plant is therefore a basic requirement for the healthy development of all plants grown in pots. As the pot limits the space available for root growth, the growing medium must offer the ideal physical, chemical and biological conditions for strong roots.

As well as a stable structure and good drainage and water storage, other important factors include the pH value, salt content and consistent nutrient availability. The growing medium must be free from weeds and substances that could inhibit growth. In the case of organic additives (organic fertilisers), it is important to ensure that nutrients such as nitrogen are made available consistently to the plants and that the fertiliser is suitable for the growing medium.
