What has long been the trend in the garden with "organic" is also gaining more and more awareness with houseplants: the ecological and natural care of the green co-inhabitants - completely without chemicals. Here, the focus is often on your own health, as well as the well-being of children and pets. We have tips for you on how to strengthen, fertilise and protect your Urban Jungle from pests with the power of nature.
Plants need sunlight to carry out photosynthesis in their leaves. In this way, they produce food for themselves, extract CO2 from the air and release oxygen for us. If the leaves are dusty or the curtains are closed, too little light reaches the leaves. So: open the curtains so that enough light reaches the plant. Clean the leaves regularly by wiping them off or rinsing them in the shower. Also spray the leaves regularly with the Urban Jungle spray solution. This strengthens the leaves, ensures lush green leaves and has a dust-repellent effect!

Indoor plants need to be fertilised because they have limited nutrients in the pot. Fertiliser provides nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, for example, which are necessary for the healthy growth and development of plants. But you don't always have to buy special fertilisers for this. There are many home remedies such as coffee grounds, eggshells or diluted cooking water from potatoes. And of course you can also use the leachate from your Bokashi bucket. To ensure that the plants develop healthy roots and optimally absorb the available nutrients, water regularly with the natural plant strengthener Urban Jungle. The effective microorganisms, micronutrients and plant extracts ensure lush green leaves and increase the natural defence system against pests.
If the soil is already dry, it absorbs water poorly. In this case it is better to water in small amounts. If the water is already running into the saucer or planter, stop immediately and water again half an hour later. The soil swells slowly and can then store more water. Caution: Avoid waterlogging and remove excess water from the pot! Use stagnant water for watering: it has room temperature and less lime. Rainwater is ideal, as is thawed snow in winter.
The most important basis for preventing pests is to provide your houseplants with "species-appropriate" care. Nevertheless, fungus gnats, which prefer to lay their eggs in moist soil, often appear. While the mosquitoes are mainly perceived as a nuisance, larvae can also cause damage to plants if they nibble at the roots. In this case, water once with Fermented Garlic and Chilli Extract (1.5 capfuls to 1 litre of water) and then allow the soil to dry. This natural remedy has a repellent effect on mosquitoes. It is also advisable to water the plants only from below into the saucer. You can also use yellow sheets to trap the mosquitoes and curb further reproduction.
Even when buying potting soil, make sure it is certified organic and peat-reduced. Multikraft's organic black soil with Terra Preta technology is alsor enriched with effective microorganisms. This way your houseplants develop a denser root system and many fine roots with which nutrients and water can be better absorbed. You can use the organic black soil directly for monstera, monocot or the flamingo flower, for example. Be aware that each plant has different requirements for the soil. For cacti, yucca or bonsai trees, for example, you should always add sand to the soil. If you repot a houseplant and want to "get rid" of the soil, you can put it on the compost heap and keep it in the natural cycle.

Moreover, resources had to be used for the production of this food: The food wasted worldwide is responsible for 10 percent of the greenhouse gases produced globally! Reason enough to acquire knowledge and behaviour to reduce food waste. Together with our partner Land schafft Leben, we have collected a few tips!
