Multiknowledge: Terrific lawn care

After all, it is the flowers that make gardeners' hearts beat faster. However, many a greenkeeper prefers a fine, even English lawn, perfectly trimmed with a velvety surface. In this article, Barbara Enengel reveals how you can get your lawn in top shape in an ecological and sustainable way.

Is that necessary?

The perfect green space often goes hand in hand with a high use of water, fertiliser and pesticides. This use of resources is not only costly, but often also harmful to humans, animals and the environment. We can already assure you: there is another way! With sustainable methods and natural aids, you can not only create a beautiful garden, but also an ecologically valuable one.

The perfect lawn in 5 steps

Mowing correctly

Mow your lawn regularly, ideally once a week. Be careful not to mow too low: a height of four to five cm is ideal. The blades of the lawn mower should always be kept sharp to ensure clean cuts.

Aerate

If the turf is too matted, the roots of the lawn grass can no longer get any air. It's high time to change that! Aerate your lawn manually with a digging fork or other tool to bring fresh air into the soil. This measure can work wonders if your lawn looks sluggish and exhausted.

Efficient watering

You should water your lawn early in the morning - this minimises the evaporation of valuable water. Ideally, you should use collected rainwater rather than drinking water.

Also use Multikraft Roots for watering. Add 1 litre of Roots to 100 litres of water and water your lawn with it. This is particularly easy with the Aquamix dosing device. Roots promotes the root growth of lawn grasses and improves nutrient uptake. You can find the exact application here

Add nutrients

Organic fertilisers such as compost, manure or special organic lawn fertilisers provide the soil with important nutrients in the long term. This keeps it fit and vital. Terra Best is an organic-mineral complete fertiliser that contains important nutrients for the soil and thus promotes the clay-humus complex.

Remove weeds mechanically

Unwanted weeds should be removed purely mechanically by weeding. Never use chemical agents: these are not only harmful to the soil, but also to you, your children and the soil life. A dense sward (the lawn grows nice and thick with the right care) prevents unwanted weeds from penetrating anyway.

Multikraft tip

For a lush green lawn that can grow stronger right from the start, add Roots and EM Ceramic Powder to the irrigation water, mix and water the lawn evenly once when sowing. You can also spread Bio Bokashi Terra over the area to loosen and revitalise the soil.

Clover is OK!

Clover binds nitrogen from the air and stores it in its roots with the help of so-called nodule bacteria. If it dies or is mown, it releases this stored nitrogen. It is then available to other plants and helps to improve soil fertility. This reduces the use of fertilisers and promotes ecological balance in the garden. Really practical!

It's so green, but let the flowers bloom too!

However, we think a uniformly green garden is a bit boring. That's why we recommend creating a flower meadow in your garden at this point. To balance out the uniform greenery, we provide you with instructions on how to create a colourful flower island in our blog post Lawn or flower meadow? This will create feeding places, nesting sites and habitats for a variety of insects and birds.
